Children's Farms of America dba Children’s Farms in Action (CFA) is a 501c3 organization that inspires curiosity and passion for sustainable agriculture through education, production, and distribution of fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant foods within ECE-12 schools.
CFA's programs include school-based education programs, out-of-school-time programming, summer camps, internships for youth of color ages 14 - 18, a youth-led farmer's market, and a seasonal in-ground agricultural program that provides thousands of pounds to the community's sustainable food access system.
Our programs collaborate with schools, churches, other nonprofits, and residents. We teach nutrition education and social justice via sustainable agriculture curricula, provide a safe space for exploration, work with community partners to create and maintain a sustainable food access system, support youth entrepreneurial projects, and provide charitable fresh food resources to two food pantries in the community.
“Kids farming for their community.”
Children’s Farms in Action’s mission is to increase local food access within the Montbello and Far Northeast neighborhoods of Denver, while providing hands-on learning and leadership opportunities for youth to engage in environmental stewardship, community resiliency, nutrition, and food production.
Our vision is to build a community in Denver’s Montbello and Far Northeast neighborhoods where young leaders shape the future of our food systems, foster environmental stewardship, and promote access to fresh, locally grown produce, creating a more resilient, healthy, and sustainable world for all.
CFA is a beacon of education and empowerment, engaging approximately 3000 youths yearly in cultivating the Montbello Urban Farm and nine school gardens and fostering a generation passionate about sustainable agriculture. Collaborating with local schools, we cultivate a network of learning and production gardens. Developing nine school gardens has enriched hundreds of families with hands-on agricultural education. Our innovative approach includes community meals, farmers markets, food bank distributions, and school programming incorporating healthy food harvested from the Montbello Urban Farm. Children are growing healthy food for themselves, their families, and their community.
